Introduction
Primrose oil is a natural oil extracted from evening primrose seeds.
Fatty acids: Mainly linoleic acid (about 70%) and γ – linolenic acid (7% – 10%). These two benefit human health.
Other components: Also contains small amounts of oleic, palmitic, stearic acids, plus vitamin E and phytosterols for antioxidant effects.
Physical Characteristics
Appearance: Fresh evening primrose oil is usually a pale yellow to orange – yellow clear oily liquid.
Odor: It has a faint special smell, like nuts or oil, without rancid odor.
Solubility: Insoluble in water, soluble in ether, chloroform, petroleum ether, and partially in ethanol.
