Introduction
Sandela 803 is a mixture of isomers. Less than 30% of its components can emit sandalwood – like fragrance at room temperature, while about 70% of the isomers are essentially odorless at this temperature. However, they can release aroma when heated or burned.
Synthesis Methods
Traditional Method: It is prepared by the condensation of camphene and guaiacol followed by hydrogenation reduction.
Improved Method: Select better reaction conditions to promptly convert the ortho – and para – isomers newly formed in the condensation reaction into the thermodynamically more stable meta – terpenophenol. Then, hydrogenation is carried out to obtain trans – 3 – isocamphylcyclohexanol.
