Detailed Description

Tetrandrine a bis-benzylisoquinoline alkaloid, is a calcium channel blocker. It has anti-inflammatory, immunologic and antiallergenic effects. Inhibits the degranulation of mast cells. It has a “quinidine-like” anti-arrhythmic effect. This has been isolated from Stephania tetrandra S Moore, and other Chinese and Japanese herbs. It has vasodilatory properties and can therefore reduce blood pressure. This Product may have potential use for the treatment of liver disease and liver cancer. Has potential therapeutic value to prevent excess scarring/fibrosis in conjunctiva following trabeculectomy or in patients with severe conjunctival inflammation.That has anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrogenic actions, which make it and related compounds potentially useful in the treatment of lung silicosis, liver cirrhosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Its has also been shown to inhibit entry of Ebola virus into host cells in vitro and showed therapeutic efficacy against Ebola in preliminary studies on mice.

Applications

1. Caused by wind-dampness, with redness, edema and hot pain of joints. Often used with coix seed (Semen Coicis) and tale (Talcum); for arthralgia caused by wind-cold-dampness, the herb is used with ledebouriella root, pubescent angelica root and aconite root (Radix Aconiti).
2. Edema caused by wind-dampness, difficult urination, diaphoresis and aversion of wind. Often used in combination with astragalus root (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari) to dispel the wind, reinforce the Qi and alleviate edema.
